Green Matcha Tea, rich in catechin polyphenols and caffeine has been shown to improve fat burning and increasing energy levels. Without adverse side effects - yes!
Green tea has thermogenic properties and promotes fat oxidation beyond that explained by its caffeine content. It is the unique combination of phytonutrients such as catechin polyphenols with the naturally high caffeine content of Matcha that is the magic. Studies show that green tea extract plays a role in the control of body composition via sympathetic activation of thermogenesis and fat oxidation.
Matcha is the same leaf as with drinking Green Tea but with Matcha Tea, it is the powdered whole leaf that you are drinking - the whole leaf. Which means you are drinking a power packed drink with all the polyphenols, dietary fibre, enzymes and plant compounds that have so many health giving properties. Matcha is known to be a powerful antioxidant with effective antibacterial properties. There is a reason why in Japan, Korea & China, Matcha & Green Tea have been sipped for centuries. Until recently with more introduced western diets, cancers such a breast cancer & colon cancer were relatively low and uncommon.
Basically research has shown Matcha can kill breast cancer cells by preventing them from refueling and therefore, they become inactive and die. (University of Salford Sept 2018) Breast cancer is sadly very well know in our world today. There is so much to learn about cancer, integrating our genes, our lifestyles, diets and environments in the journey to prevention and pathways of recovery.
Including natural and organic foods with a holistic approach to life is one of the ways back to creating healthy communities we believe. And why we love what we do in creating Mayella for everyone, individuals and families alike, in their everyday health and wellness journey.
Energising without the jitters of too much coffee, Matcha is also known to be good for brain function, cognitive support and memory.
Studies show Tea (Camellia sinensis) is widely considered to promote feelings of calming and soothing. This effect is attributed to L-theanine (L-γ-glutamylethylamide) in tea, a non-protein amino acid mainly derived from the tea leaves. The tea leaves are powered to make Matcha.
As the second most consumed beverage in the world after water, tea is popular due to its delicious flavour and a variety of beneficial properties found in the phytochemicals. The consumption of Matcha tea is widely considered to promote feelings of calmness, decreasing alertness, and alleviating stress. These beneficial calming effects are due to a non protein - L-theanine (L-γ-glutamylethylamide or 5-N-ethyl-glutamine). Apart from its benefits in protecting neurons against neurotoxic agents and improving cognition, mood, and promoting relaxation, L-theanine has also been reported as the major compound in providing the umami taste of tea. Matcha Tea contains considerable amounts of L-theanine (1.0%2.5% dry weight) in leaves.
A serving size of 250 mL Matcha green tea prepared under the recommended brewing conditions provides approximately 830 mg L-theanine - enjoy!
What are the recommended brewing conditions?
It all depends on personal preference of taste and how you are enjoying your matcha.
Depending on how strong you would like your Matcha to be but as a general rule approximately 1/2 teaspoon per serve = around 2-3 grams. This amount is perfect if you're making a cup of Matcha tea or a latte style with hot milk.
So adding to a smoothie for one person, add 1/2 teaspoon, 1 teaspoon for a bigger smoothie or sharing.
When adding Meta Matcha to your bliss balls, guacamole etc, adding 1 - 2 teaspoons will be plenty of Matcha to go around. As with most super foods - a little goes a long way as they are concentrated and the idea is to enjoy regularly so you have a consistent opportunity to reap the long term health benefits of antioxidant rich Matcha!
Note: is you are looking to include Matcha in your day for health concerns or condition, check in with your Naturopath or heath care practitioner to discuss the amount that will support your needs best - you may be choosing to intensify the enjoyment of Matcha for your health and wellness journey.
Mayella Meta Matcha is an organic Matcha tea from a small volcanic island in South Korea where the environment is especially conducive to growing the highest purity and bioactive organic Matcha.
Grown in naturally rich fertile soils and in outdoor conditions - the organic farming method of the Camellia Sinensis plants in Mayella Meta Matcha, are resilient and thereby encouraged through the natural season cycles, to develop high levels of phytonutrients to survive and thrive. Much like our own Australian Native plants which have survived for thousands of years in tough extreme conditions, they have developed high levels of health giving phytonutrients such as Vitamin C and Gallic acid in Kakadu Plum
There is a lot of debate about which country has the best Matcha. We don't understand the issue really. For us it is always always about the purity and quality, natural and organic, the sustainability, ethics of farming practice and harvest, the reward for effort to the farmers and their families, nutritional profile, plus your own taste preference. Why wouldn't you want to enjoy the best Matcha from whichever geographical location? This is much the same as different coffee beans or cacao - they have such different taste profiles from the various geographical locations where it is grown, how it is harvested and processed.
We love using it to make delicious Matcha latte's, or sipping hot and cold as a tea. Absolutely so good in smoothies- its a real energiser and compliments the taste of a smoothie so well. Perfect for those days you want to enjoy a smooth flow of energy through out all that you have planned.
Tip; Especially great before you exercise, Matcha in your smoothie, a simple plant milk drink, a hot or cold iced tea - will increase your metabolism and improve fat burning = drawing from a healthy energy source and results of your exercise!
Nutty and earthy flavours are a match made in heaven which makes our Matcha a perfect companion to anything with nuts - pistachio, almonds, cashews, walnuts, hazelnuts, macadamias for example. This lends adding into a blend when baking cookies and cakes, or dusting over savoury foods and spreads. For this reason also, we find it so good added to our foods such as bliss balls, cakes, cookies, mayo, guacamole - anything really!
2 cups of pure filtered water
1 tablespoon Meta Matcha
2 tablespoon choice of Honey / Agave Syrup / Coconut Nectar / Coconut condensed milk
Combine all ingredients in a blender, shaker or a drink bottle with lid firmly on. Shake or blend well to mix ingredients thoroughly.
Pour into ice cube trays and place in the freezer. Note; they will last well for approx 7-8 weeks. Best to use by then for full flavour and quality.
Add your Matcha ice cubes to milks of choice for a delicious iced milk- our recommendation, almond or most plant milks really bring out the zest of the Matcha flavour.
Fun tip; instead of ice cubes, pour into ice block moulds and enjoy as a refreshing popsicle. Add berries or dark chocolate chips !!!
