Botanical products that are good for our bodies, gentle on the environment and with ingredients that can be sourced back to their ethical and natural origins. That’s our promise to you.
We believe our bodies are amazing beyond our understanding and knowledge.
They are wise and intuitive and know more than we do.
We are emotional, spiritual, mental, physical sentient beings and to be truly well, to be healthy and happy, we must be, need to be, want to be, looked after in that way - as a whole being.
Nature is our medicine. Everything we need comes from Her. And when we are in tune with Her, then we are well. We are healthy, happy and resilient beyond our wildest dreams.
Hi, we’re Amanda and Robyn.
We’re a mother-daughter team and the founders of Mayella Organic. We started our business in 2010, united in our love for skincare and holistic health.
Having a young family was the spark to start this journey, knowing we didn’t want any of the common household toxins, chemicals and additives in our homes. Our professional and our life journeys have mostly revolved around health and wellbeing, so it was a natural progression to fuse our knowledge and love of organic botanicals to create a range of products that we could share with our family, friends, clients, and beyond into the global community.
Meet Amanda (the daughter):
Amanda has a background in holistic healing. She has spent 30 years helping her clients to heal and help their bodies to thrive. Amanda’s career as a therapist drives her to create products that are centred on wellness, combining the inner and outer approach to health.
Her thinking as a healthcare practitioner influences Mayella’s product line to create formulations that support the body, mind and health in the ever-changing needs and phases of life.
Meet Robyn (the mother):
Robyn is a creative and ideas person. She has owned spas in hotel environments and is the reason that Mayella feels like the pampering, self-care and self-restoration that it is.
Robyn forms the backbone of our company, supporting us and supporting our customers, so we can all bring a little more love and natural goodness into our lives. She has helped to take our talents from a 1:1 client-based business to the broader community so we can help more people and more families.
Who is Mayella?
Our name Mayella was inspired by Amanda’s daughter’s name, Sophie Mayella. Family is precious. It’s the most important thing in life and the core of our business. By bringing our family into our brand, we are creating products from our family to yours.
From sourcing to formulating to producing to creating, we’re hands-on in every step of the process, making sure that not a single part is ever compromised.
Sourcing ingredients from their original geographic locations
Cultures and communities have been farming and using plants medicinally and for food for centuries, with a knowing and respect for their properties.
When we source ingredients from their original locations, we respect and pay homage to the ancient practices of health and healing in that region. We source maca from Peru, Kakadu plum from Australia, Damascus rose oil from Syria, just to name a few.
As well as buying ingredients where they are naturally able to thrive, we also love having the connection with the families, the farmers and the co-ops. Building these relationships with the people who grow, dry and process the plants and extracts is, we believe, a special and magical part of the alchemy of Mayella products.
Our commitment to no palm oil, ever
We never have and never will use palm oil in our Mayella range, and we have 12 products that are certified palm oil-free through the Orangutan Alliance (with more to come!).
Aside from the catastrophic effects on the environment and the animals, palm oil contains a high amount of saturated fats, is questionable for our health and can be difficult to break down in the digestive process.
There’s really no sensible reason to use palm oil. Unfortunately, it’s cheap and relatively easy to work with, which makes many companies use it at the expense of our precious Earth and animals.
While remaining firm in this choice means we need to carefully source alternatives that are sustainable from farming to bottling, it’s an extra step we are more than willing to take.
Our planet, our home, has meant a lot to us, way back before Mayella was born
We were tree-huggers and composters before it became trendy and that means we bring that love for the environment into every part of our business. Here are some of the things we do at Mayella to put Mother Earth first:
All the packaging, cardboard and materials that come through the warehouse is repurposed or recycled
We source ingredients from ethical and sustainable suppliers and producers, maintaining personal relationships with them
The packaging is kept to a minimum (the less we all use = the less we all waste)
Our tissue paper is made from sustainable sources and is FSC certified (FSC certification is the 'GOLD standard' for wood that is harvested from forests that are sustainably managed, socially beneficial, environmentally conscious and economically viable)
The inks on the tissue paper and personalised tape are printed with environmentally-friendly, soy-based inks
The clear packing tape is made from recyclable materials and is biodegradable when it goes to landfill or into your compost
Our skincare is bottled in glass which helps to preserve the contents and avoid deterioration of the pure essential oils, plant nutrients and bioactives
The plastic tubs we choose for our tisanes and nutritional blends keep them as fresh as possible. They are made from HDPE plastic, resistant to breakdown or mould and are 100% recyclable plastic.
From self-care to community-care
There is a connection between how we honour and respect ourselves and look after ourselves, and how that translates to the bigger picture of how we treat our planet and our community.
At Mayella, that is the core of what we live by and how we share the love through our brand.
If you’d love to stay on this journey with us, exploring natural botanicals that are good for you and the environment, we welcome you to take the next step.
We would like to acknowledge and pay respect to the land and the traditional families of the Yugambeh region of South East Queensland, including the Kombumerri, Mununjali, Wangerriburra and others, and their Elders past present and emerging. We acknowledge and respect all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, paying our respects to their Elders, past, present and emerging.
We pay our respects to the indigenous peoples of this world, to their leaders past, present and emerging. We acknowledge that the earth we walk upon today was and always will be indigenous lands and in that honour. We will continue to support, protect and promote indigenous rights and freedoms.
