Grass and why is it good for us

Grass and why is it good for us

Where does our life force come from?

Depending on whether you are talking physical or metaphysical there are many aspects to this question. Here and now, we are talking about the physical and bringing a focus to our blood, the vital sustainer. The system that brings nourishment and oxygen to every part of our body and also carries away stagnancy, toxins and waste to help maintaining a clean, active and vital system that acts like a river flowing within our beautiful body.

So in this context, our blood is a major component of our life force.

How do we support our life force? To begin with, our belief at Mayella HQ is that with a balance in our approach to lifestyle, managing the busyness in each day by finding the positive and sustaining ways to maintain & sustain, you are you are striking gold in building life force!

In supporting and maintaining a healthy blood and blood flow. When we look after our life force and therefore are looking after self, we are also creating resilient good health, happiness and longevity - how very exciting and rewarding!

This is where the plants come in...

We also believe absolutely in the power of plants to heal and nourish us from the inside out. The range of nutritional blends, powders and capsules you will find here at Mayella are natural powerhouses of nutrients and support for abundant health.

We often are asked is this blend or these capsules safe for pregnancy or for children. We say yes, 99% of the time you can feel confident in enjoying the best of Mother Nature's garden as found in our superfoods during pregnancy and with supporting the incredible journey of supporting growing happy, thriving children. Our own children and extended family of nieces, nephews and grandchildren have!

Of course, depending on both partners health history or questions you may have around the family health, don't hesitate to speak with a health care practitioner. Or contact us, as many people do - we're always happy to chat. Sometimes the incredible journey of pregnancy and all the extra functions our body is doing means we don’t always feel amazing, or sometimes have complications that add an extra intensity to the pregnancy journey. If this is your experience, we strongly suggest you work with a healthcare practitioner to explore why. They can help you work out deficiencies or holes in your diet and then perhaps prescribe customised supplements and herbs. And for you personally they can affirm the benefits if suitable, of whole-food nutrition as found in our range, supporting the extra nutritional requirements for both Mum and of growing a beautiful baby.

Children are a bottomless cup of growing, growing, growing and to support all that growing they require solidly good food densely rich in nutrients to support good foundations that not only make a huge difference in the early years, these foundations also serve to support them into the teenage years when eating habits take a whole different direction 🤔

And this is where the grasses come in...

We combine a variety of grasses in our Mayella organic super blends, each valued for their particular nutritional characteristics. Here, in connection with our blood, we are sharing the bliss to our bodies that is wheatgrass 🌱

Wheatgrass appears to be just a simple green shoot, but the richness of the humble Wheatgrass is so much more than a blade of grass.

Triticum aestivum is the wheat plant and the wheatgrass that is popularly juiced is baby wheat. In our organic blends, the wheat grass is grown pesticide and chemical free, harvested while it is young shoots and before any gluten forms in the plant. Gently and lovingly dried at the lowest temperatures to maintain optimal nutritional levels and enzyme content.

Wheatgrass is rich in Chloropyhll, containing more than 70% chlorophyll, and an important ingredient in a balanced diet.  Chlorophyll is a green pigment that helps plants, certain bacteria and algae's create their own food by engaging with sunlight via the process of photosynthesis.

The unique factor about Chlorophyll in Wheatgrass is that the chlorophyll molecule in wheatgrass is almost identical to the hemoglobin in human blood.

Hemoglobin ( haemoglobin -noun) is a protein inside red blood cells responsible for transporting oxygen in the blood of vertebrates - animals including Humans that have a backbone or spine. The hemoglobin molecule comprises four subunits, each containing an iron atom bound to a haem group. Haemoglobin carries oxygen from the lungs to tissues and organs in the body and carries carbon dioxide back to the lungs for elimination. Breathe it all out!

About 70 percent of your body's iron is found in the red blood cells of your blood called hemoglobin and in muscle cells are called myoglobin.

What happens when your hemoglobin is low? Low hemoglobin often leads to Anemia - a condition in which you lack enough healthy red blood cells to carry adequate oxygen to your body's tissues. Oxygen powers the cells and gives you energy, clear thinking, vitality. Having anemia, also referred to as low hemoglobin, can make you feel tired and weak and you may experience headaches, fatigue, anxiety and pale skin.

There are many forms of anemia, each with its own causeEssential nutrients found in Wheatgrass like Chlorophyll, iron, Vitamin C and Vitamins B12 and B9, B17 all help to keep the blood healthy, producing red blood cells and transporting Oxygen throughout the body.

Interesting fact... the only difference between the chlorophyll molecule and hemoglobin is that the central molecule in chlorophyll is magnesium and in hemoglobin it is iron. Everything else, the molecular structures of chlorophyll in Wheatgrass and hemoglobin in blood is similar and the reason why Wheatgrass is often called “Green Blood” as Wheatgrass contains all the nutrients the body requires and is considered a complete food. Containing 17 amino acids and a huge 92 different minerals the body uses and needs daily to function and to grow!

Two hands, one adult large hand holding a young babies tiny hand

One study showed a 70-83% increase in red blood cells and hemoglobin concentration within 10-16 days of regular taking of chlorophyll derivatives. This increase of hemoglobin would be felt immediately in better energy levels, clearer thinking and and a general sense of wellbeing!

Another research observation with taking Chlorophyll was an improved formation of red blood cells in anemia conditions. The structure, free flowing ability and efficient renewal cycles of our red blood cells are important indicators for a healthy body. Poor red blood cell structure and appearance, stickiness or clumping of the red blood cells and anemia all are apparent with DVT, cancers, chronic fatigue and auto immune conditions etc.

The Chlorophyll in wheatgrass can protect us from carcinogens, chemically neutralises polluting elements, strengthens our cells, assists to detoxify the liver and blood stream as it also contributes to effective and efficient oxygenation of our blood. When people start taking wheatgrass, they often notice improvements in body odour and their breath - this is due to the powerful detoxifying effects wheatgrass has within the body, cleansing, purifying and rejuvenating through the organs via the blood and lymphatic systems.

So simply put, when the “blood of plants” is absorbed in humans, it is transformed amongst other things into formation of healthy human blood which  is then supporting more vital and effective transportation of nutrients to every cell of the body.

Mayella Capsules / Powder/ Blends make it easy to have specific and constant “dosing” of pure organic wheatgrass with no risk of unwanted microbes (as with mediums or soil that the shoots may be grown in with the fresh grass) pesticides or pollutants, or of being diluted & processed. The common "warning " with enjoying wheatgrass with pregnancy is not to overdose as side effects may include an upset tummy and diarrhoea. Taking 1-2 capsules daily or 1/2 a teaspoon is micro-dosing and enables confidence in how much goodness of wheatgrass you are actually taking. Of course, everyone is different and should consult their healthcare practitioner to assess blood assays and their individual health profile especially if including plants nutrients in their diet is new to them.

With a container of Mayella Wheatgrass capsules lying on its side and capsules spilling out onto the white table top. A brass spoon with a pineapple on the handle and a terracotta and white stripe d tea towel frame the image.

The advantage of supporting blood health and vitality with Wheatgrass is that you are absorbing a whole food, balanced in its profile of nutrients by Mother Nature to have a wholistic beneficial effect on health and vitality when added to a diet. As compared to isolated compounds where the body has to find & match the co-facilitators in the process or function underway. For example, the complex of B vitamins + A,C, E vitamins that assist with absorption and function are present in Wheatgrass as are enzymes and amino acids. Throughout history, plants have played a key role in diet, health and healing. When our diet is enriched with plants, we can improve our nutrient intake in a natural way, without side effects and really notice the healthy benefits.

Green foods are by nature anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and rich in nutrients that are pro-aging / anti-aging as they all contain Chlorophyll.

One study found that gram for gram, Wheatgrass contains more Vitamin C than an orange.

Spoiler alert, even though we are talking about our physical body, true health & vitality is holistic - one doesn't happen without the other...mind body spirit are all interconnected and receptive. Stress, PTSD and anxiety have been shown in studies to reduce the ability of the body to absorb nutrients, as well as depleting nutrient stores more rapidly.

Of course our skin is very transparent in reflecting when our body is struggling with anaemia, nutritional deficiencies, congestion, stagnancy, toxin overload. The skin can express these unhealthy states with symptoms of itching, rashes, bruising, red blotchiness, scaly dry skin, raised bumps, whiteheads, breakout, acne, rosacea, oilyness, dandruff, dark circles, fine lines and wrinkles, premature ageing.  Don't ignore the signals your skin is sending through - health and healthy skin is always an inside & out balance!

Supplementing in times of busyness and stress with whole foods is essential, helping to maintain healthy tissue function, building beautiful oxygenated red blood cells important for energy, brain activity and focus + avoiding the side effects of accelerated nutritional depletion. BUT so too is it important to reach out for help & have a conversation or simply be the boss of your time and make time to slow down and rest or have a massage.

Exercise is also proven to stimulate neurotransmitters that positively uplift mood and brain function. Meditation can help with those monkey mind gremlins that fix thoughts and patterns of behaviour in a negative or worry spiral.

Importantly, Mayella Organics Wheatgrass is 100% Australian grown, packaged and brought to you as acknowledged by the Australian made licence, a guarantee of quality and purity.
